Dear Radar,

I want to thank you for the wonderful article on the Peabody Library.

{RADAR11, page 14- A Cathederal of Books }   We have had quite a bit of press lately, and Miriam Desharnais' Article is the most accurate description of what the Peabody is and how we hope the public will view it.   Thanks!

Blooomsday Omission

Re your article on the Bloomsday Centenary in RADAR issue 11 by Miriam Desharnais, she stated that "the overall plans for Bloomsday festivities in Baltimore are few and far between."

At the Pratt Library, the Central Library in downtown Baltimore, we've celebrated Bloomsday for the past two years with lectures and discussion with Peter Fitz, English professor at University of Baltimore. And Johnnie Fields, a librarian in the Humanities Department, has led a monthly reading and discussion group on Ulysses this past year.

We'd be happy to add your name/address to our mailing list so you would get a copy of the Library's bimonthly news and events calendar - or you can find listing of library events at www.epfl.net .

The author responds:
Although my focus in the review was primarily on finding a way to personalize a rather obscure tradition, the omission of the Pratt Library's Bloomsday Centenary lecture is regrettable.

As a librarian for Baltimore County I am a daily user of Enoch Pratt Free Library's valuable website (www.epfl.net) and frequently encourage others to attend the excellent programming offered at the Central Library and its branches.

Hoping this Bloomsday was much enjoyed, not only in the streets and bars, but at the library too.

Miriam DesHarnais
